Memoirs of a new wife
Twice the laundry, an actual house to keep clean, actual decent meals to prepare and grocery shopping to feed two mouths. A hand with a scar from washing a sharp knife after making my husband dinner, and another scar from pulling my husbands’ dinner out of the oven. Throw in moments at the sink when we are both grabbing a glass of water and give a quick kiss, or saying “I love you” before leaving to run errands, praying together when something is good, and praying together when something is bad, and evenings after a crazy day when we just sit down and talk, and you have the framework of the beginning of a happy marriage.
Back in Mt Isa
We are back in Mt Isa now, setting up our new home. Benjamin, Johannes’ brother and his girlfriend Kathy have been in town for a month! So it’s been so fun having them over and just hanging out. Shauna’s been having fun decorating (her dream come true) and Johannes has been doing manly fix it work.
There you have it! Please check out the “Our Future Plans” link to see what’s next as we’ve updated it. Also, make sure to look at Johannes’ pictures. Cheers!
Honeymoon
For our honeymoon, we spent the first night in Seattle, then headed to Whidbey Island for a week. We had an awesome house in the woods with TONS of windows. We visited Deception Pass and checked out the other sites.
New Zealand was next! We were in the North Island (yup, where Lord of the Rings was filmed!) staying in Rotorua. One of our favorite things to do was just drive around. The rolling green hills scattered with sheep and cows were set amoung rivers and valleys. Rotorua is an area with immense geothermal activity. Something to keep in mind when visiting Rotorua- the rotten egg smell overtaking your car as you drive into the city is NOT your spouse passing gas. Nor is it from the Waste Management Plant you pass on your way in. It is actually the smell of the immense amount of geothermal activity surrounding the city. Rotorua ended being a genius place to stay (good pick Johannes)! We visited geothermal hot spots like a pond of bubbling mud and a park of different colored geothermal pools reacting from different minerals in the water. Our highlight of New Zealand was the caving we did! Check out the pictures Johannes took of our trip.
On our way back to Mt Isa we spent a couple days in Townsville seeing friends. They even threw us a party!
Pre Wedding
Our whole time in Seattle was packed with wedding planning and time with family and friends. A few days before the wedding, Johannes’ family came in from Germany to stay with us. Incredibly enough, our neighbors across the street let us use t their house while they were out of town. So in their house we had Johannes, Jonny (his brother), Claudia (Jonny’s girlfriend), Benjamin (his brother), Kathi (Benjamin’s girlfriend), Jennifer (Johannes’s cousin from New Mexic o) and Chrissie (another German who staffs with us in Mt Isa). In my parent’s house we had Mom and Dad, me, Tim, Krysta, Janae, Renate (Johannes’s Mom) and Udo (Johannes’s Dad). During this time, another relative who we call Uncle Bill and his wife came into town for the wedding and met Johannes and his family for the first time! We all had BBQs together, showed visitors around town and hung out in the living room just laughing and talking.
And then the best wedding EVER happened.
